Yurts – May 21, 2024

Things are humming along here now with the Yurt. Everyday a little more gets done and it feels more and more like home again.

I’ve decided to go with a suspended bed now so that I can ensure proper and continued air flow on all areas of the floor. This will help prevent mold from ever being a possibility.

For now my bed is suspended by some ratchet straps. I will be changing these out and adding pulleys and ropes so I can easily raise and lower the bed to access storage underneath.

In light of having the bed lift up and down, I’ve also decided to condense my room to just the shape of my bed. So the only floor space will be underneath the bed. This will allow for a more compact living space that in turn will allow me to better fit the bathroom that I want to add. I will have a full shower and a composting toilet inside the Yurt.

I have finally also been able to add the Hobbit door like my son wanted! It looks so good!

Still needs a coat of paint and some minor adjustments. But it’s fantastic. It also oddly enough makes the entire space feel much bigger.

I’m going to find some glow in the dark paint to put “Gandalf’s Mark” on the door 🥰🥰🥰

I have been able to connect the two chimneys together, the final section will be added once my apex windows arrive.

I was given a free lamp from a lady in the city the other day that I thought would be perfect for the oil lamps I have now! And I was right! It’s amazing! It’s setup on a Pully so I can lift and lower it to fill with oil and light.  And because I’m using spent vegetable oil the lamps burn literally all night long.  Also because of the high flash point of vegetable oil(some 900C) they are the safest form of candle light. If the oil ever spills it were to fall, it extinguishes the flame. Unlike the kerosene lamps which have a low flash point(200C) that if dropped would spread fire everywhere. This puts my mind at ease for sure. I’ve also tested this haha.

I am so grateful for how everything is turning out. It is honestly looking better than I had dreamed it! I can’t wait to share it with my children!

Thanks for tuning in!
