I was able to setup the small diesel heater for the yurt last night. This is an 8kw system that runs on my 12 volt battery/solar system with the Starlink. This unit, without the Starlink running, can maintain the +20C inside the Yurt while I’m gone, after the wood stove runs out of coals(approximately 7-8 hours after I stock it in the morning) it then has a large enough diesel reservoir (that I hope to convert to use vegetable oil soon) that it will run for two days no maintenance. This will ensure the Yurt stays warm while I’m away for the day at work in the city. There by using less wood to get the stove going again when I get back. And once it’s changed over to the used Veggie oil, it won’t cost anything to run, giving the used vegetable oil a second life rather than simply being discarded.
The other component I was able to get set up, was the new cold air intake for the wood stove. This gives an easy, low resistance air source for the wood stove to supply the firebox with oxygen. This way the stove no longer draws air from inside the Yurt thereby forcing cold air to come in through the edges of the walls, the door, etc. Not only does this make the stove more efficient, but it also helps to keep the air balance in the Yurt, by not forcing air to come in where I don’t want it to, meaning no more cool draft along the floor of the yurt! This has made such a huge difference! It has also enabled me to return the cat door to the cats. Now I just need to introduce them slowly to the Rabbits, so they get along and the cats can go back into the Catio when I’m not around. I’ll be working on this over the weekend.
