WFH – March 14, 2024

Hey everyone!

I’ve just been working on a few small projects here and there the last few days.

I’ve started cutting all the cross beam sections for the new Yurt floor. I will begin putting these floor Joyce’s together so they are ready to simply drop over the timbers and lay the new-to-me plywood over top! I need 185, 16.5″ pieces to connect 14 2x4x20 beams.

Thankfully my little generator, humble as it is, can run my dad’s Myter  saw. Making this much faster and accurate.
192 pieces done!

I did a little bit of cooking this week – spoiling myself with cinnamon/brown sugar french toast sticks. Mmmmmmm soooo perfect! Especially with the fresh eggs we are starting to get again! I wish I could share them with all of you! Wait… Maybe not… Lol well this batch is mine. I’ll make more.

I know it doesn’t look like much, but it’s the little things in life these days.

I added a lid and spout to cleanly funnel my dish water from the sink into the waste bucket. I also added a wood rack under the bucket  that squeezes it and holds it in place preventing the cats from potentially tipping the bucket. I’m quite happy with this as the cats have spilled the bucket once before. They were curious kittens at one point believe it or not ha.

The new 8 inch chimney that covers the 6 inch chimney inside.

The other major – small project I got done this week was adding a secondary insulated pipe to the chimney stove – it’s not really necessary, just another redundancy I’m adding. So what I’ve done is take the 8 inch diameter chimney pipe I had, some rock wool(fire proof insulation) and wrap it around the 6 inch pipe that comes off the stove. Stuffing the rock wool between the two pipes further insulating the chimney from external objects. This worked out really well. I’m quite pleased with the results.

I was also able to finish building 3 more garden beds and start filling the other 7 with used straw bedding from the chickens. I’m currently trying to find sources of top soil that I can mix clay from the property here, as well as biochar when I get some made. This is going to be the world’s best compost soil! I now have a total of 10, 6x9ft garden beds. I still have to make another 6. But this is an excellent start with the snow melting and trees beginning to bud.

Setup my shower outside again! It was so warm out I couldn’t resist! It was incredible.
Last little project today was baking more bread – this time molasses, c+raisin bread! That’s right craisins and raisins!
Mmmm all done!
Just a little nifty thing I tried before bed. Placing my small cast iron egg pan on the stove with oil, a branch of spruce and 2 drops of fennel seed oil. The stove heats it all, the aroma travels up and the fan behind it pushes the pleasant aroma around my home. Lol home made air freshener!

I hope you enjoyed the photos.  I’ve had a wonderful time the week outdoors. It’s been beautiful out.

Until next time, I love you all!
