Chicken update

Summer has officially settled in, and that means it’s time to kick off one of my favorite seasonal rhythms—raising meat birds! This year, I’ve ordered 30 healthy chicks, and with prices around $4 per pound, it’s an incredibly rewarding (and affordable) way to fill the freezer with ethically raised, nutrient-dense meat.

To make the process smoother, I’ve expanded and upgraded our chicken brooder. It’s now easier to clean and manage—small changes that make a big difference when you’re caring for animals daily. I’ve tucked it under the back end of my parents’ trailer for a bit of shade and shelter, and it’s perfectly positioned for easy check-ins each morning.

The brooder will be filled next week, and I’m excited to get this cycle started again. There’s something grounding about raising your own food—knowing where it comes from, how it was treated, and the impact your choices make on the land and your body.

If you’re interested in reserving some of these birds (uninspected, farm-fresh, and raised with love and freedom to forage in the forest), feel free to shoot me an email. This is intentional living at its tastiest.
