Unexpected Blessings (and Rocks!) on a Sheep Chase
What began as a mildly frustrating excursion — chasing after the sheep on one of their infamous joy rides — turned into a moment of unexpected delight.
As I wandered through the pasture just east of their usual grazing grounds, keeping an eye out for the woolly escapees, I stumbled across a modest pile of rocks. Scattered and half-buried in the soil, they varied beautifully in shape, size, and color. It was clear they had been pushed aside long ago, likely during the original clearing of the land.
To anyone else, it might have looked like nothing more than a forgotten pile of rubble. But to me, it was a gift — a provision. Instantly, I saw the potential. These stones would be perfect for building the masonry enclosure around the sunken hearth I’ve been dreaming about for the gathering area. Solid, weathered, full of character — and best of all, already here.
So, without delay, I rolled up my sleeves and began loading them up. There’s something satisfying about repurposing what the land itself offers — especially when it feels like God put it there just for you to find at the right time.
As Psalm 104:24 says:
“How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.”
Even in moments that seem ordinary — or even inconvenient — God’s provision shows up in unexpected ways.
