Flocks – Feb. 6, 2024

Today I was able to add the diesel heater to the chicken coop. Don’t worry it has a proper exhaust and air intake system.

The heater itself inside the coop.
The diesel tank + pump, exhaust, and electrical lines
The control panel. I can set this on a timer so it shuts off after 14 hours(overnights) and turns on again in the evening for the night.

It’s a really simple system, I have another of the same unit in the Yurt as a third backup heater, if it’s ever needed. The hope is that this will heat the coop enough in the deep freezes so the chickens don’t risk getting frost bite on their combs.

To squelch the debate before it starts ha, I do not intend to run this heater all winter long. It does mean less egg production, but the goal is to be producing and selling meat chickens over the winter and eggs in the summer. I may yet get an extra light for inside the coop to allow the chickens to continue producing eggs more often in the winter. But for now I’m ok with them taking a break for a couple months.

Today’s reading: Matt. 23:23-49 + Ex. 31, 32, 33

Thanks for tuning in! Until next time, I love you all!
